1. VICTORIA PARK WETLAND WOWS VISITORS

The new $13 million, 3.2 hectare wetland in the southern part of Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16) has been wowing visitors since its official opening on Friday 6 March.

The largest earth-moving project within your Adelaide Park Lands for 60 years is now a haven for waterbirds and a must-visit attraction for Adelaide residents and visitors alike.

2. ART PRIZE JUDGES CHOSEN

As one of the three richest art prizes in South Australia, the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize has grown in stature since its first iteration in 2014.

As part of our preparations for the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize, we are honoured to have reached agreement with five highly talented and qualified judges, who will form our judging panel.

3. KATE COCKS DESERVES BETTER

Kate Cocks, MBE, was the first female police officer, not just in Adelaide, but in the entire British Commonwealth. However, the Park that is named in her honour is being treated like garbage.

Neither the City of Adelaide nor the State Government are showing any respect to the Park that honours a pioneering South Australian.

Is it a "women problem?"

Out of the six Adelaide Parks that are named for famous SA women, five of them have been subject to attacks, to reduce their availability as Open Green Public spaces.

4. PLANE TREES SAVED IN FROME ROAD

There's been good news on the fate of two Plane trees off Frome Road in Park 11. InDaily's Angela Skujins reports:

However the story from InDaily is far from complete. Many other trees nearby in Frome Park are threatened by a planned new seven-storey high school building.

APA is also still waiting for the new State Govt to honour its pre-election commitment to protect 257 trees in Helen Mayo Park, which was rezoned by the previous State Government, last January for "Entertainment" developments.

7. FROM ADELAIDE ZOO TO UKRAINE

Adelaide zookeeper Jodie Sheridan has a lot on her plate.

In between caring for orangutans at Adelaide Zoo and cycling through the Park Lands, she’s begun raising funds for rescued animals in Ukraine.

8. STUDY ON URBAN GREEN SPACES

9. NEW TRAIL GUIDE PUBLISHED - PARK 2

We've just added another Trail Guide to our collection. The Trail Guide to Denise Norton Park / Pardipardinyilla (site of the Aquatic Centre) allows you to take your own Guided Walk at any time, to see for yourself the history and features of not only this Park, but also some of the adjacent heritage buildings.

10. KADALTILLA - NEW KAURNA NAME FOR AUTHORITY

The Adelaide Park Lands Authority has changed its name. Adopting a new Kaurna name, it's dropped the word "Adelaide" and is now calling itself “Kadaltilla/ Park Lands Authority”. InDaily's Angela Skujins reports:

At the Lord Mayor's request, we have added to our website a brief explainer about the difference between the the Adelaide Park Lands Association, and Kadaltilla / Park Lands Authority. The explainer is in the footer of every page on our website.

11. PARK LANDS IN "TINY OZ" TV SERIES

A surprising slice of 19th century Park Lands history involving a scantily clad woman and a hot air balloon has been featured in an ABC-TV series, "Tiny Oz".

When Mary Heath is not cycling or running through the Park Lands, she’s collecting eucalyptus leaves for eco-printing and getting involved in fashion activism events.
