1. CONSERVATORY's FUTURE QUESTIONED

Questions have been raised about the future of the Bicentennial Conservatory in the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

Despite a Strategic Plan calling for a “re-imagining” of the Conservatory as a “Martian biodome” the Garden’s Director says “there are no concrete plans at the moment” to replace the building’s tropical plants.

3. FENCE GONE! OPENING UP

Twelve months of advocacy has produced a great result to improve access to Helen Mayo Park in your Park 27.

A useless, 300-metre fence that has been blocking access to part of your Park Lands for decades has finally been removed.

4. WHAT'S ON IN YOUR PARK LANDS MARCH-APRIL

Discover what’s on in your Adelaide Park Lands during and AFTER the Fringe and the Festival, through to the middle of April.

As "Mad March" show-time winds up, other events and opportunities to explore are emerging. Our listings also include activities and opportunities available all year long in your Open, Green, Public Adelaide Park Lands.

5. WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are a grassroots community organisation. We Explore, Inspire, Protect, and Restore.

But we are only as strong as our Members; our Volunteers; and our Donors.

You are receiving the non-members version of this newsletter which means you're not (yet) a Member of our team, or perhaps a previous membership has expired.

Will you help us? There are three ways to do that: as a Member, as a Volunteer or as a Donor.

If you were to become an APA member, then you would then be able to book for any of our Guided Walks for free, and you would also unlock 15% discounts to all the merch in the APA Shop.

More importantly, your membership fee (as low as $20 per year for a single concession) would be tangible support for our Park Lands strategies:

Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore.

If you were to become a volunteer, there would be a wide range of things you could do to help in one or more of our strategic activities. For example,

becoming a Park Ambassador; and/or
writing stories for our blog and future editions of this newsletter.

6. CITY DIRT UPGRADE COMING

7. LABOR SNUBS PARK LANDS QUESTIONS

SA Labor has snubbed a series of Park Lands questions posed to the major candidates for a by-election next week in the inner suburban seat of Dunstan.

If you are in the Dunstan electorate, you might like to check (before voting) on how each of the three main candidates responded to six simple questions about your Adelaide Park Lands.

8. DUCK CROSSING TRAGEDY

A young male driver is reported to have deliberately mowed down ducks crossing Frome Road in your Park Lands.

Deputy Lord Mayor Keiran Snape has made a request to Council administration to see if there is any CCTV footage that can be accessed to help investigate.

9. HOT AND DUSTY FRINGE

Your Adelaide Park Lands have been buzzing with life during the Fringe festival, but it’s not the occasion to wear your best shoes.

Foot traffic and extreme heat have turned some Park Lands Fringe sites dusty and brown, rather than green.

10. HEATWAVE WORRY FOR BATS AT WOMAD

The chair of a bat rescue organisation is alarmed that last weekend’s WOMAdelaide Festival in Botanic Park (Park 11) would have added to the animals’ stress from the heatwave and increased the number of deaths.

11. CLEAN-UP DAY IN TAINMUNTILLA

Nine volunteers worked on both sides of the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari, downstream from Hackney Road towards Frome Road, during our Park 11 clean-up on Clean Up Australia Day, Sunday 3 March.

Five bags of rubbish and one bag of recyclable materials were collected.
We'll be doing another Park Clean-up in October. (Our apologies to the volunteers who missed the photo shoot at the end!)
