1. STATE AND WORLD HERITAGE - STAKES RAISED |
by Shane Sody This week marks a full four years since the State Heritage Council recommended your Open Green Public Park Lands for State Heritage listing. Despite a fresh Opposition commitment to push for future World Heritage listing, the Park Lands are still facing State Heritage obstruction from the State Government. |
2. CREDIT DUE ON HELEN MAYO PARK |
by Shane Sody Despite launching six attacks this year on your Adelaide Park Lands, the State Labor Government has honoured one of its pre-election promises - to reverse the former Liberal Government's "entertainment" zoning of Helen Mayo Park. |
3. IDEAL BROWNFIELD OPPORTUNITY |
by Shane Sody While the State Government is proposing to target your Open Green Public Park Lands for massive new buildings, a perfect brownfield building location, right next to the Park Lands, is going begging. We’ve written to the Government, urging them to buy the old West End brewery site, so they can follow through on their promise to “protect and restore” your Park Lands. |

5. WE NEED YOU - PLEASE JOIN US |
The Adelaide Park Lands Association has four Park Lands strategies: Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore. But we are only as strong as our members. To be effective at these strategies, we need YOUR support. |
You are reading the non-members version of this newsletter - which means you are not (yet) a member. If you were to become an APA member, you would then be able to book for any of our Guided Walks for free, and you would also unlock 15% discounts to all the merch in the APA Shop. More importantly, your membership fee (as low as $15 per year for a single concession) would be tangible support for our Park Lands strategies: Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore. What are you waiting for? |

6. ORDER NOW FOR XMAS GIFTS |
Share your Park Lands love with a gift this Christmas. Whether it's the 2023 APA wall calendar, an APA mug, tote bag, tea-towel, mask, T-shirt, hoodie or even an apron. We carry no stock - these items are all “print-on-demand.” Normal production and delivery time is two to three weeks, so there's no time to delay if you want to leave one or more of these items under the Christmas tree. |
Our 2023 wall calendar (above) - among the items in the APA Shop. |
7. BOTANIC ART FOR CHRISTMAS |
by Carla Caruso Speaking of Christmas gifts, there is a new concept at the Adelaide Botanic Garden (Park 11): a pop-up art and gift shop, featuring work by 20 SA artists. The Botanic Art Collective will hold its next event – Botanic Christmas Beauty – at the Noel Lothian Hall (near the rose garden) from this Friday to Sunday, December 2-4. APA’s Carla Caruso chatted to organiser, Adele Butler, to find out more about it. |
by Carla Caruso A Filipino family, who have made a home here, love to share their passion for the Adelaide Park Lands. If you frequent social media, you will have seen their beautiful images being reposted by APA and others. But who are they? APA’s Carla Caruso reports. |
9. PARK LANDS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT |
by Ian Milroy Politicians seem to have trouble recognising the opportunities for economic development from capitalising on your globally unique Adelaide Park Lands. Who will back heritage listing and world promotion of your Park Lands, as a driver of economic development? |
|
|
| 10. NEW SEED ORCHARD AND WINE RELEASE |
by Carla Caruso The return of warmer weather is always a good time to check out the Adelaide Botanic Garden (Park 11). A few exciting things have also been happening there recently, including the launch of a threatened plant seed orchard and a limited-edition wine release. APA’s Carla Caruso delved deeper. |

| by Shane Sody Heavy rain and mud marred the Harvest Rock festival in your eastern Park Lands on 19 and 20 November. Grassed areas of Rymill Park / Murlawairrpurka (Park 14) and King Rodney Park / Ityamai-itpina (Park 15) were churned up by the crowd, but that didn’t seem to dampen spirits. |

|
| Words: Shane Sody Photos: Lyndon Stacy There have been some strange sights in your Park Lands during recent days, with more changes on the horizon. New lighting and pathways, a new soccer pitch, and some unexpected mounds of earth. APA's Lyndon Stacy has been digging around the dig sites. |

| 13. FIVE REASONS TO ENTER THE ART PRIZE |
by Eden Dickin Unless you are a well-established professional artist, the process of entering any art prize might seem daunting. However for any artist, including new or budding hopefuls, entering the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize is a uniquely valuable opportunity: for personal, professional, social, community, and environmental reasons. |
