1. SAVING PARKS - A HEALTH MEASURE

Premier Peter Malinauskas has been urged to consider saving Adelaide’s Park Lands as part of the Government’s overall health strategy.

After the Premier’s reassurance that “all options are on the table” we’ve pleaded to save this Park 27 location for the health of future generations, by choosing a different site for a new Women’s and Children’s hospital.

3. CITIZEN SCIENCE - SHARE AND LEARN

One of the reasons to love your Park Lands is the diversity of environments and plants and animals across all of your 32 Parks and six Squares.

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the flora and fauna in your Park Lands, or share your own knowledge with others, there’s now a smartphone app to help you identify species; and/or share your observations.

4. RIDING WITH KEITH

What began as a fun spin on the bike eight years ago has become a weekly tradition for Keith Conlon.

The former media personality is behind Ride with Keith – a friendly Wednesday group ride, traversing the Adelaide Park Lands and beyond. Keith chatted to us about his favourite city routes, doing “official blessings” with water bottles of new parts, and more.

Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore.

But we are only as strong as our members. To be effective at these strategies, we need YOUR support.

You are reading the non-members version of this newsletter - which means you are not (yet) a member.

Over recent years, the Adelaide Park Lands Association has been connecting with Uni students, to introduce many of them to your Park Lands and inspire them to Explore and Protect.

Planting of thousands of native species has commenced around new flood management works in Blue Gum Park / Kurangga (Park 20).

9. SKATE PARK SET TO OPEN

After 18 months of construction work, the long-awaited City Skate Park will be officially opened next Saturday morning, 2 September, with public access from midday.

Contractors are putting the finishing touches to the facility off West Terrace (opposite Hindley Street) in Gladys Elphick Park / Narnungga (Park 25).

13. WE FLY AS ONE

Finally, the Adelaide Park Lands Association extends congratulations to the Adelaide Football Club and the City of West Torrens for choosing Thebarton Oval as the Crows' new home.

Three and a half years ago, the Crows tried to take over part of your Park Lands for a proposed corporate headquarters, aided by a culture of secrecy within City Council administration to promote what became known internally at the Town Hall as "Project Blue".

At the time, we suggested Thebarton Oval would be a good option. We were not alone in that.
