1. COME HERE SUNDAY TO SAVE HUNDREDS OF TREES

The State Government has snubbed an opportunity to explain to you why it wants to destroy hundreds of trees in your Helen Mayo Park (Park 27)

The “Save Helen Mayo Park Picnic Rally” this Sunday at 12 noon is your chance to express a view about this scenic location on the Torrens riverbank:

Should the State Government let these trees live, or should it replace them with a $660 million 15-thousand seat stadium ?

2. "RIDICULOUS": GREEN ADELAIDE CHIEF SLAMS PARK REZONING PLANS

The chair of a State Government Board trying to make Adelaide “greener” and “wilder” has urged community groups to be "shouting from the rooftops" about the Government's "ridiculous" plans to turn over 70 hectares of river-front Adelaide Park Lands for development.

Professor Chris Daniels advocates “re-wilding” the River Torrens which puts him in conflict with Government plans for many new “Riverbank” buildings on your Open Green Public Park Lands.

3. PROGRESS PICS FROM NEW WETLANDS

More than 100,000 plants are about to go into the ground (and water) in the soon-to-be-completed new wetlands in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16).

Take a look at new pics from within the construction site, as the biggest Park Lands earthmoving job for 60 years nears completion.

4. SAVE ADELAIDE's RIVERBANK

The State Government plans to re-zone 70 hectares of your Adelaide Park Lands, to accommodate lots of additional buildings (up to 20 storeys) over the coming years..

The Government is asking for feedback on its plans. The closing date is Wednesday 27 October.

5. INAUGURAL PARK LANDS LOOP EVENT

Plans are being made to repeat APA’s recent “Park Lands Loop Collective” event, which was staged on Sunday 3 October.

About 60 nature lovers either walked, scootered, ran or rode the 15.5km loop around the city, completely through Park Lands.

6. AQUATIC CENTRE THREAT TO NATIVE VEGETATION

The Adelaide City Council is contemplating removal of remnant native vegetation, to accomodate more car parking. It's also missing an opportunity to restore a large slice of your Adelaide Park Lands to 'Open, Green Public' status.

The Council is refusing to consider any site other than a Park Lands site, for a new Aquatic centre.

7. BOTANIC GARDEN IN BLOOM

Spring has sprung at the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

The warmer months mean extended hours, so you can enjoy the springtime blooms for longer. Although, get in quick to catch the wisteria arbours at their peak.

9. HERITAGE FOR BITUMEN HEAT SINK?

APA has been lobbying since 2009 to have the Adelaide Park Lands declared a State Heritage Area.

Despite a positive recommendation from the State Heritage Council in 2018, the State Government has kept the idea on "pause" now for almost three years.

So it is with a sense of amazement that we read of a new push to heritage-list not the Park Lands, but a patch of bitumen that has been despoiling one Park for the past few decades.

Today, we look at a new sculpture, honouring Quentin Kenihan - and why the Quentin Kenihan accessible playspace in Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka (Park 14) is being upgraded.

11. PARK LANDS COMMUNITY FORUM - 23 OCTOBER

The Adelaide Park Lands Authority is hosting a community forum to understand how you connect with the Park Lands.

What do you love about the Park Lands? What would – or does –inspire you to spend time in your Park Lands?

The forum is scheduled for 10am to 3pm on Saturday 23 October at Adelaide Pavilion off South Terrace in Veale Gardens, in Veale Park / Walyu Yarta (Park 21)
