A State Parliamentary Committee wants your views no later than 24 February, on how to protect Adelaide’s trees.

We’ve made our submission, that the greatest threat to your Park Lands trees is coming from the State Government. Will you join us and reinforce that simple message?

2. LORD MAYOR ART PRIZE FINALISTS RECEPTION

In the lead-up to next month’s opening of the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize exhibition, all finalist-selected artists will be invited to a Town Hall reception with the Lord Mayor, Jane Lomax Smith.

The Lord Mayor’s reception will come just days before the opening of the exhibition at the Festival Centre, when the prize-winners will be announced.

4. COUNCIL JOINS AQUATIC CENTRE BROWNFIELD PUSH

The Adelaide City Council has recognised overwhelming community support for protecting the Open Green Spaces of your Park Lands.

Despite intransigence from the State Government, the Council is now backing calls to re-think the proposed site of a new State Aquatic Centre.

6. TEAM MEMBER MISSING: YOU!

We are a grassroots community organisation. We Explore, Inspire, Protect, and Restore.

But we are only as strong as our Members and our Volunteers.

You are receiving the non-members version of this newsletter which means you're not (yet) a Member of our team.

Will you help us to spread the word, to encourage others (especially the State Government!) to Love Your Park Lands ?

There are two ways to do that: as a Member, or as a Volunteer (or both!)

If you were to become an APA member, you would then be able to book for any of our Guided Walks for free, and you would also unlock 15% discounts to all the merch in the APA Shop.

More importantly, your membership fee (as low as $15 per year for a single concession) would be tangible support for our Park Lands strategies:

Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore.

If you were to become a volunteer, there's a wide range of things you could do to help in one or more of our strategic activities.

9. WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP

To"wait for the other shoe to drop" means to wait for an expected and inevitable event to occur. The event is most often negative.

State Parliament has passed legislation authorising the confiscation of even more of your Park Lands for a new Police barracks.

Preparations are being made, but the target site still has not been revealed.
