Work has already commenced in preparation for establishing a giant police compound in your Park Lands.

The Government’s sixth Park Lands attack in less than a year is set to destroy more than a decade of painstaking native re-vegetation by Bush for Life volunteers.

3. SPLASH OUT FOR YOUR PARKS

Our PRO-development movement is picking up momentum. After getting more than 2,500 signatures on a petition to the Premier, we’ll be making a splash on Saturday 18 March at Port Road Thebarton.

We're urging the Government to "splash out" by buying brownfield sites for their proposed new developments.

4. ART PRIZE WORKS ON VIRTUAL DISPLAY

With just days to go before the official opening, all of the finalists' artworks in the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize are now available for viewing on-line.

The exhibition at the Adelaide Festival Centre will open to the public from Saturday 25 March, after the invitation-only opening event and announcement of prizes on the evening before.

5. TEAM MEMBER MISSING: YOU!

We are a grassroots community organisation. We Explore, Inspire, Protect, and Restore.

But we are only as strong as our Members and our Volunteers.

You are receiving the non-members version of this newsletter which means you're not (yet) a Member of our team.

Will you help us to spread the word, to encourage others (especially the State Government!) to Love Your Park Lands ?

There are two ways to do that: as a Member, or as a Volunteer (or both!)

If you were to become an APA member, you would then be able to book for any of our Guided Walks for free, and you would also unlock 15% discounts to all the merch in the APA Shop.

More importantly, your membership fee (as low as $15 per year for a single concession) would be tangible support for our Park Lands strategies:

Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore.

If you were to become a volunteer, there's a wide range of things you could do to help in one or more of our strategic activities.

6. LOOPERS ARE BACK

You can sleep in for an hour, on the first day after daylight saving ends, and still be in time to join the Park Loop collective: walk, run or cycle around Adelaide on the Park Lands Trail.

An additional hour’s sleep will help you feel energised for a stroll, starting at 9am around the world’s only City in a park; a jaunt of about 15 km with your fellow loopers!

7. $2M SOCCER CLUB EXPANSION

A two-million dollar State Government grant is likely to lead to a new two-storey sports building being erected on Mary Lee Park (Park 27B).

There’s been no official announcement but there seems little doubt that the expansion will go ahead, subject to the West Adelaide soccer club getting approval for a new building design.

9. BIRDING IN YOUR PARKS

10. PARK LIFE SURVEY

The Australian Urban Design Research Centre (based at the University of Western Australia) is conducting an "Australian Park Life Survey" to capture park, nature and public open space use across Australia.

They're offering a Prize Draw (four $250 shopping vouchers) for participation in the survey before the end of March 2023.

12. BACKING AWAY FROM BONYTHON PARK THREATS

The State Government has backed away from its own warning, last month, that most of Bonython Park / Tulya Wardli would be subjected to construction activity over the next eight years.

The project team, planning to build a $3 billion hospital on Park 27 is playing down earlier Government advice that 19 hectares of your Park Lands would be subject to “large-scale excavation works” for the next eight years.

A former ballroom dancer who’s turned into a business coach and marketing consultant has been the driving force behind communicating our “Inspire” messages.

Marina Ritchie is credited with boosting the profile of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize in 2023, helping us to attract a record 480 entries.
