1. PETITION VICTORY

After getting 3,998 signatures on a petition to “Save Helen Mayo Park” we are celebrating a victory.

Former Premier, Steven Marshall failed to listen. He's now lost his job. His lack of vision in trying to destroy Helen Mayo Park with a stadium has disappeared as well. However, the new Labor State Government also has a number of threats to your Park Lands on its agenda.

2. OUTLOOK FOR HORSE PADDOCKS

More trees and enhanced equestrian facilities are on the wishlist for owners who keep horses in Park 6 of your Adelaide Park Lands.

The City Council is reviewing its Community Land Management Plan for Park 6, and will get feedback from horse owners keen to ensure that the Park can be enjoyed for generations to come – and improved where necessary.

3. PROTECT THIS SITE, LABOR URGED

North Adelaide residents have issued an appeal to two prominent Labor figures in a bid to save this Open Green Public space in Denise Norton Park / Pardipardinyilla (Park 2).

Locals have supported APA’s push to reclaim Park Lands when the Aquatic Centre is rebuilt.

4. SPORTS FIELDS AND SHEDS IN TWO PARKS

The City Council is inviting expressions of interest for sporting fields in two Parks.
In each case, existing arrangements have expired.

Rather than offer an automatic extension to the existing licencees, the Council is looking to see whether other groups might like to take over the use of existing playing fields and sheds.

5. VICTORIA PARK - MOTOR RACING FOR HOW LONG?

With months-long preparations for a four-day carbon emission festival set to return soon to Victoria Park, local residents hope that the City Council doesn’t renege on its promises to investigate increasing tree cover.

The Adelaide 500 motorsport anachronism will start taking over the Park, later this year, replacing the COVID-19 test station, but Park lovers haven’t given up "Reimagining Victoria Park."

7. RAINBOW WON'T FADE AWAY

The Rainbow Walk on Light Square / Wauwi will undergo a revamp, thanks to a motion from an Adelaide City Councillor.

Meanwhile, two of APA's Guided Walks feature stops that acknowledge past tragic events in Adelaide’s LGBTIQ history.

9. BELLS RINGING OUT FOR A GUIDED WALK

The bells of St Peters Cathedral - and a brand new Garden Market - greeted participants on our Guided Walk, last Sunday 27 March through Tarntanya Wama (Park 26).

A crowd of 40 joined APA's Park Ambassador Helen Hutton, on an informative two-and-a-half hour walk in glorious sunshine through Creswell Gardens, Pennington Gardens, Stella Bowen Park, Light's Vision, Pinky Flat and Elder Park.

10. BIRDS OF PREY - PART OF REWILDING

Have you seen birds of prey in your Adelaide Park Lands?

Green Adelaide says that raising awareness of these birds is an important step towards rewilding the city.

11. CASH PRIZES for CREATIVE RE-GREENING IDEAS

There's only a few weeks left to lodge an entry for our 'UnPaving Paradise' poster design competition. We need fresh ideas for how to turn this neglected patch of bitumen into an inviting corner of Bonython Park/ Tulya Wardli (Park 27).
