1. BREWERY SITE PURCHASE RAISES HOPES

Reports that the State Government is close to finalising a deal for the old West End Brewery site at Thebarton has raised hopes that infrastructure developments threatened for your Park Lands might be switched to this alternative site.

Meanwhile, the City Council has deferred a vote on handing over a three-hectare Park Lands site for a $135 million, two-storey megalith aquatic and commercial centre.

2. PLAN FOR A PARK AFTER MOTOR RACING

The City of Adelaide has been urged to plan for an Adelaide Park Lands future AFTER carbon emission motor racing.

Your comments are being invited on a draft ‘Master Plan’ for Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16).

3. POCKET FOREST POPS UP

A fledgling ‘pocket forest’ has been planted by a volunteer group in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16), in collaboration with the City of Adelaide.

“Green Pakapakanthi” has planted what’s described as a “Miyawaki forest” near the wetlands at the southern end of the Park.

4. WATERWORKS AND BRICKS

Have you noticed this strange small octagonal building in Rundle Park / Kadlitpina (Park 13) near the corner of Botanic Road and Dequetteville Terrace?

It’s on a site that was restored to your Park Lands in the 1980s; and is a rare surviving example of patterned brickwork that was commonly used in the late 1800s.

We are a grassroots community organisation. We Explore, Inspire, Protect, and Restore.

But we are only as strong as our Members and our Volunteers.

You are receiving the non-members version of this newsletter which means you're not (yet) a Member of our team, or perhaps a previous membership has expired.

A world congress of conservation professionals has been alerted to the ongoing shrinkage of your Adelaide Park Lands.

Despite successful efforts to restore and revegetate some parts of your Park Lands, international experts have been left in no doubt about the ongoing threats.
