1. BETTER CONNECTIVITY FOR WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S HEALTH

A review of possible sites for a new Women's and Children's Hospital has found that a site near the corner of West Terrace and North Terrace would be "relatively inexpensive" to acquire, and would offer significantly better connectivity with the broader biomedical, research and university precinct (compared to the Government's chosen Park Lands site).

Meantime debate over the hospital site has gone national; with the Chair of the Australian Heritage Council advocating for Your Park Lands.

2. GREAT SOUTHERN BIOBLITZ

Join thousands of fellow Australians in using your smart-phone to observe and record whatever life you can see or hear, in one of the rare precious bushland areas in your Adelaide Park Lands.

Join us on Sunday morning, 30 October, 10am to 12 noon, on the Wirrarninthi Environmental Trail within Park 23. We’ll help you record biodiversity as part of the Great Southern BioBlitz.

3. THREE ATTACKS IN SEVEN MONTHS

We hope you love your Park Lands, and we hope that you will help us spread the love. The greatest challenge that we face, every day, is trying to convince the State Government to Love Your Park Lands too.

Elected in March 2022 on a platform that included protecting Parks and tree canopy, the Labor State Government has since shown, by its actions, that it does not love your world-unique Adelaide Park Lands.

4. COMMUNITY GARDEN RE-OPENS

The Park Terrace Community Garden within Mary Lee Park (Park 27B) is back in operation – and the committee’s looking for new members.

After the garden was put in hibernation for 15 months amid the pandemic, it’s now being revitalised, spurred on by a grant from the City of Adelaide.

6. EVENT TO CELEBRATE NEW SKATE PARK

7. NEWEST TRAIL GUIDE PUBLISHED

We've just published our latest Trail Guide: the 18th in what is destined to become the definitive guide to your entire Open Green Adelaide Public Park Lands.

Take your phone with you and follow the trail through Gladys Elphick Park / Narnungga (Park 25) starting from the new skate park off West Terrace, opposite Hindley Street.

8. CHECK LIST OF CONSTRUCTION SITES

There’s been a lot of publicity in recent weeks about controversial development proposals in your Open Green Public Park Lands.

However the proposed new Aquatic Centre in Park 2, and the proposed new Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Park 27 are only the latest examples of a decades-long trend of Park losses.

In October 2022, work is well underway to build over Park Lands at four other sites.

10. OCTOBER IS PARKWALK MONTH

October is “parkwalk” month; an offshoot of “parkrun”…. for fitness enthusiasts in your Adelaide Park Lands, and in parks and open spaces throughout the world.

To mark the organisation’s 18th anniversary, walkers as well as runners are being encouraged to participate throughout this month.

Entries have been coming in, steadily, over the past few weeks for the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize.

The motto for our Art Prize competition is “Inspire”. We hope and expect that artists, inspired by your Adelaide Park Lands, will create artistic works that inspire others.
