Adelaide has jumped up to third place in rankings of the world’s most liveable cities - surely a boost for Adelaide's new bid to become only the world's second "National Park City”.

Adelaide can build upon the enviable world reputation of your Open Green Public spaces.

2. HOW TO LOSE A MARGINAL SEAT (Adelaide)

How do you lose a marginal seat? Both major political parties seem to be doing their best to lose the marginal seat of Adelaide at the State election, due next March.

Neither Premier Steven Marshall, nor Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas appears to have done his homework to ascertain the growing swell of public support for Adelaide's Open Green Public Park Lands.

3. RESTORE THIS SITE? YES, THE PROJECT IS UNDER WAY

An initial startup meeting was held on Saturday, 5 June (World Environment Day) at this bitumen expanse within Bonython Park / Tulya Wardli (Park 27).

The site is now earmarked for partial re-greening (and sometime in the future, perhaps, new beach volleyball courts).

4. STREET THEATRE IN THE PARK LANDS

There’s been an innovative use of the Adelaide Park Lands - as a theatre stage, with actors moving in and out of scenes, through the windows of a moving bus.

“The Narrator” used the backdrop of several Parks and Squares to tell a “moving” story.

5. DISC GOLF A WINNER

After 12 months of operation, disc golf players say the public Disc Golf Course in King Rodney Park / Ityamai-itpina (Park 15) has been a great success.

6. GREENING COMMENCES AT NEW WETLANDS

Recent rains have re-established green groundcover at the new wetlands under construction in the southern part of Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16).

Work is progressing on schedule, with the wetlands due for completion by the end of this year. Thousands of seedlings and bushes are due to be planted over the winter.

7. LUNDIE GARDENS - WHO WAS FRANK LUNDIE?

Many parts of your Adelaide Park Lands are named after famous people of decades past.

8. GUIDED WALKS SCHEDULE SET

APA's Guided Walk schedule for the rest of 2021 has been finalised.

There are 11 more Guided Walks coming up throughout the remainder of this year.

The next Guided Walk is this coming Sunday 20 June, from 2.00pm in the ancient Olive Groves (Parks 7 and 8) between lower North Adelaide and Gilberton.

9. SEVEN CANDIDATES - ONE CITY COUNCIL VACANCY

Seven candidates are vying to fill a single casual vacancy on the City Council.

The vacancy is for an "Area Councillor" i.e. someone to represent the entire City - not just a single ward.

You have at least two opportunities to see the candidates pitted against each other in separate forums scheduled, for June 29 and June 30.

10. ABANDONED BUILDINGS BECOME EATERIES

Any loss of the Park Lands to development is not to be celebrated.

However, two food businesses have made use of previously-abandoned Park Lands buildings, finding ways to stay viable even during the notoriously quieter, cooler months.

Despite being a National Heritage-listed place, the Adelaide Park Lands are not well protected by Federal environmental laws.
