1. PREMIER's PARK LANDS STRAW MAN

Premier Peter Malinauskas has tried to equate putting massive new Government buildings in your Park Lands with upgrading a children's playground.

Questioned by Guardian Australia about his Government's refusal to consider brownfield sites for proposed new buildings, the Premier has responded with a straw man*; falsely suggesting Park Lands advocates were opposed to everything - even a Park playground.

The Guardian has now alerted a national audience to the State Government's series of attacks on your Open Green Public Park Lands.

* "Straw Man" - definition: an intentionally misrepresented proposition that is set up because it is easier to defeat than an opponent's real argument.

2. CREATE WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

As the deadline approaches for entries to the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize, some words of advice have come from someone who’s learned how to succeed, with works inspired by your Park Lands.

4. BECOME A PARK AMBASSADOR

How would you like to introduce others to favourite parts of your Adelaide Park Lands?

We're looking for six enthusiastic volunteers to join our team of Park Ambassadors, to "adopt" a Park, show others why you love it; and report what’s happening in it.

5. MAKE AN IMPACT: JOIN!

Politicians can count, but they're not counting you.

Your Adelaide Park Lands will be protected and restored only when a sufficient number of people demand it.

Our biggest challenge is to convince politicians to Love Your Park Lands. Are you with us?

Will you help us achieve this goal? Our membership has more than doubled over the past two years, but it doesn't (yet) include you.

9. CORPSE FLOWER BLOOMS

It can take up to a decade to flower and, once in bloom, its odour has been likened to smelly feet, stinky cheese, and dead animals.

This didn't stop park lovers queuing in their hundreds a few days ago, to see and smell the so-called “corpse flower” during its brief flowering at the Adelaide Botanic Garden (Park 11).

10. WAITING FOR STATE HERITAGE LISTING

Deputy Premier, Susan Close, has stopped short of offering any timeline for long-delayed action to list your Adelaide Park Lands as a State Heritage Area.

More than four years after a State Heritage Council recommendation, the State Government is still relying on the same tired excuses for its failure to act.

11. ANOTHER TRAIL GUIDE RELEASED

We've just released a new Trail Guide to what is probably the most popular Park within your Adelaide Park Lands.

The Trail Guide to Park 11 includes not only the bushland in Mistletoe Park / Tainmuntilla along the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari, but also Botanic Park, and the Botanic Garden.

Take a real (or virtual) tour that features a set of riverside sculptures, a flying fox colony and much more.

12. AQUATIC CENTRE DOUBLE PRESS

More and more people are stepping up to urge construction of a new Aquatic Centre on a near-city brownfield site, rather than on your Park Lands.

Two separate campaigns are under way: one to persuade the State Government; the other to persuade the City Council.

13. WETLANDS NOT SPARKLING THROUGH SUMMER

Work is due to commence shortly to rectify some persistent problems affecting the $13 million dollar wetlands in the southern part of Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16).

South-east city residents have expressed concern about long delays in fixing pathways, irrigation and signage.
