1. PROVIDE COVER FOR MIRNU WIRRA |
by Shane Sody Do you have an umbrella? Do you Love Your Park Lands? If so, we need you on Sunday 4 June, to provide “cover” for the threatened biodiversity of Golden Wattle Park / Mirnu Wirra (Park 21W). With hundreds of others, use your umbrella to signal to the State Government that there is community “cover” for Park Lands, and that new Police barracks must go on a non-Park Lands site. |
2. WHAT THEY WANT TO DESTROY |
by Shane Sody Spread the word! These are the wildflowers that won’t have a chance if the State Government goes ahead with current plans to put an enormous semi-industrial police workplace onto the most biodiverse part of your Adelaide Park Lands. |
3. PREMIER LOOKING FOR AN OFF-RAMP |
by Shane Sody The State Government is holding urgent discussions with the Police Commissioner and others to try to head off growing public anger at its proposed massive attack on your Park Lands for new Police barracks. The Government is feeling the heat, after a 2,000 signature petition arrived at Parliament House, and the Legislative Council looks set to launch a Select Committee of Inquiry into mis-management of your Park Lands.

6. WE NEED YOU - PLEASE JOIN US |
We are a grassroots community organisation. We Explore, Inspire, Protect, and Restore. But we are only as strong as our Members and our Volunteers.
You are receiving the non-members version of this newsletter which means you're not (yet) a Member of our team. Will you help us to spread the word, to encourage others (especially the State Government!) to Love Your Park Lands ? There are two ways to do that: as a Member, or as a Volunteer (or both!) |
If you were to become an APA member, you would then be able to book for any of our Guided Walks for free, and you would also unlock 15% discounts to all the merch in the APA Shop. More importantly, your membership fee (as low as $15 per year for a single concession) would be tangible support for our Park Lands strategies: Explore, Inspire, Protect and Restore. If you were to become a volunteer, there's a wide range of things you could do to help in one or more of our strategic activities. Check out the volunteer options here. |

10. LORD MAYOR "SHOCKED" BY "MEGALITH" SPORTS SITE PLANS |
by Thomas Kelsall of InDaily Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith has raised concerns about the “colossal” size of proposed sporting club redevelopments to replace ageing and rundown facilities in city park lands, amid debate over whether Adelaide City Council should limit their building footprint. InDaily's Thomas Kelsall reports:

|
Words: Shane Sody and Drew Sinton; Photos: Drew Sinton It’s been described as the world’s most polarising fruit. On Sunday 7 May, Adelaide's Malaysian Community braved the rain to attend Taste of Malaysia's Durian Fest in Bonython Park / Tulya Wardli (Park 27).

12. LATEST TRAIL GUIDE - ADELAIDE OVAL PRECINCT
|
Over the past few years we've been gradually compiling the definitive Guide to your Park Lands. Our collection of Trail Guides points out the notable features in each Park, so you can explore and learn as you walk through. Just released: our Trail Guide to Tarntanya Wama (Park 26) - the Adelaide Oval precinct. |
Do you have an organised mind? Do you like putting things in order? The Adelaide Park Lands Association has been growing rapidly over the past two years and we urgently need behind-the-scenes help just keeping up with the rapid growth. Specifically, we need a volunteer membership/admin officer to respond to new and renewing members, and to keep our mailing lists up to date.
