1. STATE HERITAGE: 12-YEAR DELAY COMING TO A HEAD

It's been over 12 years since your Adelaide Park Lands were nominated for State Heritage listing.

Sine then, attacks on Open Green Public Park Lands have continued relentlessly, while progress on Heritage listing has stalled. Now, that 12-year delay is about to come to a head in State Parliament, with a draft law to formally recognise your Adelaide Park Lands as a State Heritage Area.

2. LABOR, LIBERALS COMBINE TO TORPEDO PARK PROTECTION BILL

On Wednesday 17 November, the Labor and Liberal parties combined in the Upper House of State Parliament to torpedo a law that would have given protection to your Open Green Public Adelaide Park Lands.

Treasurer Rob Lucas described the draft legislation as “evilness” while Labor’s deputy leader Claire Scriven wanted to avoid future parliamentary debates about proposed Park Lands attacks.

3. THEY ALL LOVE YOUR PARK LANDS

More than 100 prominent South Australians have signed a letter to the State Government protesting against plans to rezone the Adelaide Park Lands.

4. SOS FOR MATURE TREES

Adelaide's losing mature trees at an alarming rate.

As many as 75,000 trees are disappearing each year across the metropolitan area, and Premier Steven Marshall has threatened hundreds more to build a proposed stadium in Helen Mayo Park.

A campaign launch by the National Trust on Wednesday, 1st of December will showcase how people power can help reverse this trend.

Victoria Square / Tantanyangga. will be even busier than usual, in December, with a feast of options.

There are also exercise, sporting and entertainment options in a variety of other Park Lands locations to round out the year 2021

6. PARK LANDS HELP FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE

The State Government has offered $5 million funding to ‘green’ Adelaide’s CBD.

Yet its announcement failed to even mention Your Open Green Public Park Lands - as if they are irrelevant to SA's climate change response.

9. GROWTH AFTER CULTURAL BURNING

From mushrooms shooting through the soil to healthy tussocks swaying in the wind, academics and volunteers are noticing change in Carriageway Park / Tuthangga (Park 17) following a Kaurna cultural burn last May.

City of Adelaide officials say the pilot will be repeated in the city's green belt.
