1. TWO VISIONS FOR A RE-GREENED SPACE |
by Shane Sody Planting poems or a place to connect? Three Adelaide Uni arts students, and a landscape architect have carried off the two major prizes in our 'Unpaving Paradise' design competition. |

2. HAVE YOUR SAY - NEW AQUATIC CENTRE SITE? |
by Shane Sody The State Government is undertaking a sham process of consultation on the site for its promised new $80 million regional Aquatic Centre. The State Government's so-called consultation envisages no potential site other than on your Open Green Public Park Lands - so we are doing real consultation for them. |
3. NEW TRAIL GUIDE TO PARK 17 |
by Shane Sody A group of 26 walkers joined APA's Park Ambassador Rosemary Hayward last Sunday, 12 June, on a Guided Walk through the picturesque Carriageway Park / Tuthangga (Park 17). If you missed the occasion, you can catch up at any time, and guide yourself through this cherished, well-wooded south-east corner of your Park Lands with our brand new Trail Guide. |
4. HIMEJI GARDEN - PICTURE PERFECT AT 40 |
by Carla Caruso Adelaide's Himeji Garden is one of the most photographed spots in Your Park Lands. Two months ago, the traditional Japanese garden - in Peppermint Park / Wita Wirra (Park 18) - turned the big 4-0. To celebrate, we chatted to Nicole Lionnet, APA’s Park Ambassador for Parks 18 and 19, about how best to capture this photogenic spot. |

5. WE'LL TELL YOU A SECRET |
There are two versions of this newsletter - one for the members of our team, and one for non-members. You are reading the non-members version. As a non-member, you're missing out on the secret password that unlocks FREE tickets to all our Guided Walks. With the secret password, you would also unlock 15% discounts to all the merch in the APA Shop: things lilke T-shirts, a winter hoodie, tea towels, tote bags and more. |
Getting the secret password is just one of the benefits of being a member of the Adelaide Park Lands Association. More importantly, if you were to become an APA member, your membership fees would be a tangible way to help with one or more of our four Park Lands strategies: Explore, Inspire, Protect and/or Restore. |

6. RE-IMAGINE VICTORIA PARK - TREES, PLEASE |
by Shane Sody A city residents group is applying for funding to plant more trees in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16) . The plantings would provide much-needed shade around the Park's playing fields and beside the "green corridor" that connects Halifax Street in the city to Fullarton Road and Grant Avenue in Rose Park.
|
7. SHARED USE PATHS FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS |
by Peter Lumb The City Council is installing new shared-use cycling and pedestrian paths along the edge of South Terrace, in Carriageway Park / Tuthangga (Park 17) and in Peppermint Park / Wita Wirra (Park 18). However, not everyone believes this is an optimum solution for either cyclists or pedestrians. APA's Peter Lumb puts the case for better, separated bike lanes, including in these two locations.

8. DOGGED QUESTION - ON OR OFF LEASH? |
by Carla Caruso The new wetlands in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16) have proven a magnet for many, including Adelaide’s dog lovers. However, some think it’s a bit ‘ruff’ that canines are allowed to roam free in the $13 million, 3.2ha wetlands. It’s been a bone of contention (pun intended).

9. RE-GREENING ABUZZ AT DIVERSE-CITY |
by Shane Sody and Ted Jennings |
Despite cold, wet weather, our first-ever Re-Greening benefit show on Saturday 4 June raised more than $1,400 for restoring a patch of bitumen off Port Road in Bonython Park. A diversity of comic, cabaret, folk and rock performers had the venue, Diverse-city, buzzing. |

|
by Carla Caruso The start of winter has provided lovely weather for ducks in Adelaide. And the city’s parks haven’t missed out on a soaking. Parts of the southern Park Lands were underwater on Monday 6 June after the CBD copped 43mm of rain – around 60 per cent of the average June rainfall.
Elsewhere, the new $13 million, 3.2ha wetlands in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16) were put to the test. |
